Our block is 1136 S State Street, which puts us on the west edge of the Ballpark and Central Ninth stretch, directly west of Liberty Park and a straight run south from the downtown core. State Street is one of the few roads in this city that almost everyone already knows how to drive, and it does not require any negotiation with the downtown one-way grid.

That location decides most of who walks in. Office workers from the blocks around 200 South come after five. Graduate students and hospital staff cut across from the University of Utah on 400 South or 900 South. Sugar House and Millcreek residents come up 1300 South or over from 700 East. If you live anywhere between the Avenues and 3300 South, this is a short trip rather than an outing.

Salt Lake City was late to this treatment, and that is the honest reason it is hard to find here. Scalp work in this valley has historically lived at the end of a hair appointment, folded into a shampoo, priced as a courtesy and finished in six minutes. A dedicated sixty-minute session on a table is a different category, and until recently almost nobody in Utah was selling one.

We are not going to make a medical claim about that. What we can say is that the hour is warm, quiet and entirely indoors, and that January is one of the times people book it most.
